Euthanasia is not a subject all are comfortable with, but it is a very important decision that many pet owners will be faced with for their beloved animals. What is pet euthanasia and how do I know when it’s the right time?

Each patient has their own special set of circumstances. Every family deals with the topic of euthanasia and the grief of losing a pet in their own way. We respect everyone’s rights to their individual beliefs and personal values. We recommend speaking with your Veterinarian regarding your pet’s quality of life.

At Westbridge Veterinary Hospital, we do not offer in-home services, but we can provide you with a list of trusted Veterinarians that do offer mobile services. Please ask the front desk for more details.

How is the euthanasia drug administered?

An intravenous catheter is gently placed, most often in a forelimb. We use a topical freezing agent to make this as comfortable as possible for your pet. The euthanasia drug is administered through the catheter. The passing of your pet happens very quickly and painlessly. In some cases, such as a very nervous, anxious, or painful pet, a mild sedative will be prescribed prior to the procedure. This is all in the interest of allowing your pet to pass peacefully and with as little discomfort as possible.
